Breadth showed up. Inflation gets the next move.

Three charts, three consequential stories, three live desk watches, and one honest receipt for the week ahead.

By Jason Teixeira · Founder, Nexural

Friday's tape rewarded risk after payrolls fell by 23,000. QQQ and IWM both beat SPY, which matters because the move reached beyond a single mega-cap winner.

That breadth now faces a compressed test: TSMC sales before Monday's U.S. open, CPI Wednesday, PPI Thursday, and retail sales Friday. The useful question is no longer whether Friday looked bullish. It is whether participation survives the evidence arriving next.

01 · Chart deck

Three questions. Three visible failure conditions.

Market leadership

Risk appetite reached beyond the benchmark.

Did Friday's rally broaden, or did SPY carry the tape alone?

Read
QQQ gained 1.17% and IWM gained 1.08%, versus 0.59% for SPY. Both higher-beta baskets outpaced the broad benchmark.
Why now
Broad participation gives the constructive posture more credibility before the inflation sequence begins.
Breaks if
The read weakens if IWM loses its relative lead after CPI and participation collapses back into a handful of large-cap names.

Growth bar

Palantir raised the number. The tape raised the standard.

How much operating evidence sits underneath PLTR's post-earnings move?

Read
Q2 revenue grew 93% year over year, U.S. commercial revenue grew 149%, and the stock gained 10.32% on August 7.
Why now
The quarter provides evidence for the AI-demand story, but a larger post-earnings move also leaves less room for weak follow-through.
Breaks if
The watch loses quality if the earnings gap retraces, relative strength versus QQQ breaks, or subsequent price action needs a fresh headline to stay sponsored.

Catalyst density

Four sessions. Five chances to change the read.

Where is the week's decision risk concentrated?

Read
The calendar contains one material event Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, then two on Friday. Tuesday is the only open observation window.
Why now
A crowded calendar rewards reaction over prediction. The order matters: AI demand, consumer inflation, producer inflation, then final-demand data.
Breaks if
The calendar map changes if an agency or company revises its published release timing; source calendars are checked again before any audience send.

02 · News that changes the map

Three stories with consequences.

SPY · QQQ · IWM

Payrolls fell by 23,000. Equities chose the rate path first.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported little change in both measures, while labor-force participation sat at 61.4%.

Why it matters: The market treated weaker labor as manageable on Friday. CPI and PPI now decide whether that interpretation survives contact with inflation.

PLTR · QQQ

Palantir's growth accelerated; the burden of proof moved to follow-through.

Revenue reached $1.935 billion. U.S. commercial revenue rose 149% year over year to $764 million, and the company raised full-year revenue guidance to $8.150–$8.158 billion.

Why it matters: The numbers support the AI-demand narrative. The next edge is measuring whether price keeps confirming after the first post-earnings reaction.

TSM · NVDA · AMD · QQQ

TSMC's monthly sales print becomes the first live test.

TSMC reports July monthly sales on August 10. Its second-quarter revenue was $40.20 billion, and third-quarter guidance is $44.6–$45.8 billion.

Why it matters: TSMC sits upstream of the week's AI debate. The company number matters; the response across NVDA, AMD, and QQQ tells us whether the market agrees.

03 · Desk watchlist

Three watches that have to earn confirmation.

PLTR

Palantir

Post-earnings structure watch

The stock closed at 172.01 on August 7, up 10.32% on the day after a quarter that materially raised the growth bar. Nexural's August 7 desk draft also moved PLTR into its swing-review lane.

Catalyst
Post-earnings follow-through and the market's willingness to keep paying for accelerated U.S. commercial growth.
Confirmation
Relative strength versus QQQ survives, advances keep volume support, and pullbacks stay controlled instead of erasing the earnings move.
Invalidation
The earnings gap fully retraces, relative strength breaks, or the stock needs a fresh headline every session to stay above the prior decision zone.

TSM

Taiwan Semiconductor

Company catalyst watch

Monday's July sales report lands against $40.20 billion of Q2 revenue and $44.6–$45.8 billion of Q3 guidance. Nexural's August 7 company desk already tagged TSM as the cleaner AI-infrastructure catalyst watch.

Catalyst
July monthly sales, published Monday at 1:30 a.m. ET, plus the read-through into NVDA, AMD, and QQQ.
Confirmation
The reported sales path supports Q3 guidance and semiconductor peers participate instead of leaving TSM isolated.
Invalidation
The monthly print weakens the Q3 path, peers refuse to confirm, or relative strength breaks while NQ loses sponsorship.

QQQ / IWM

Growth and breadth pair

Macro confirmation pair

Both outpaced SPY on Friday after the payroll decline. That is the week's cleanest breadth receipt, and it faces three inflation-and-demand tests by Friday.

Catalyst
CPI Wednesday, PPI Thursday, then retail sales Friday.
Confirmation
Both baskets keep participating after the releases, with IWM holding relative strength rather than handing leadership back to a few mega caps.
Invalidation
Breadth narrows, IWM loses Friday's relative strength, or hot inflation pushes growth and small caps lower together.

04 · The receipt

Issue One established a constructive breadth thesis and three conditional watches. Its first scheduled catalyst has not occurred at this cutoff, so there is no honest outcome grade yet. The claim remains visible: participation should survive the week's data, or the posture must change.
