Nexural QPulse

Volume-normalized momentum — the WHEN indicator for STS entries.

PulseMomentumExhaustionSTS Core
Nexural QPulse chart example

Most momentum indicators measure price movement alone. QPulse measures volume-weighted momentum — how much institutional participation is behind each move. A rally on thin volume scores low. A rally on heavy volume scores high. This distinction is everything.

QPulse is the WHEN indicator in the Sage Trading System. Volume Profile tells you where to trade. Flow Pro tells you whether to go. QPulse tells you when to pull the trigger. The zero-line cross is your entry signal — cross above zero for longs, below for shorts. Simple, mechanical, repeatable.

The 1-3 candle rule is non-negotiable: enter on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd candle after the zero-line cross. By candle 4+, the momentum edge is gone. Extension zones at ±69 signal exhaustion — if QPulse is already extended when you're thinking about entering, you're late. Wait for the next setup.

What's Inside

Feature Breakdown

Every component of Nexural QPulse explained — what it does, why it matters, and how to read it.

Zero-Line Cross

The primary entry trigger. Cross above zero = bullish timing. Cross below = bearish timing. This is a mechanical signal — no interpretation needed. Combined with a Volume Profile level, it produces high-probability entries.

Volume Normalization

Momentum weighted by volume participation. A 10-point move on 5,000 contracts scores higher than a 10-point move on 500 contracts. This filters out hollow moves that lack institutional conviction.

Extension Zones (±69)

When QPulse exceeds +69 or drops below -69, momentum is exhausted. Don't enter new positions in extension — the move is overcooked. Wait for QPulse to return toward zero for the next fresh entry.

1-3 Candle Rule

Enter on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd candle after a zero-line cross. By candle 4, the momentum edge has been priced in. This rule prevents chasing and forces disciplined entry timing.

Momentum Quality Score

Not just direction — QPulse scores the quality of the move. Strong, volume-backed momentum scores high. Weak, low-participation momentum scores low. Use the score to size positions: high quality = full size, low quality = reduced.

Divergence Detection

When price makes a new high but QPulse makes a lower high, momentum is weakening despite price action. This hidden divergence warns of exhaustion before price reverses.

How to Trade It

Trade Setups & Examples

Real trade setups using Nexural QPulse. Each example shows the setup, entry trigger, and target.

1
Zero-Line Entry at VP Level
Setup

Volume Profile identifies yesterday's POC as support. Price pulls back to POC and holds. QPulse approaches zero from below.

Entry

Enter long on the 1st or 2nd candle after QPulse crosses above zero at the POC level. Flow Pro confirms with green stacks.

Target

Target VAH (Value Area High). Stop below the demand zone under POC. Exit early if QPulse reaches +69 extension.

2
Extension Fade
Setup

QPulse reaches +75 extension after a sharp rally. Price is extended above all VP levels. No structural support underneath if it reverses.

Entry

Wait for QPulse to cross back below +69. Enter short on the 2nd candle after the downturn. Flow Pro should show sell imbalance.

Target

Target the nearest POC below. This is a mean-reversion trade — take profits quickly.

3
Divergence Warning
Setup

Price pushes to a new session high, but QPulse's peak is lower than the previous peak. Volume is declining — the rally is running on fumes.

Entry

Don't enter new longs. If already long, tighten stop to breakeven. Prepare for a short if QPulse crosses below zero.

Target

If shorting the divergence, target the previous swing low or the nearest VP level.

Configuration

Settings Reference

Every setting explained. Defaults work out of the box — adjust only when you understand why.

Period
Default: 14

Calculation period for the momentum component. Shorter periods (8-10) are more responsive but noisier. Longer periods (18-21) are smoother but lag more. 14 balances both for intraday futures.

Volume Smoothing
Default: 5

Smoothing applied to the volume normalization component. Higher values produce a smoother QPulse line but add slight delay to the zero-line cross signal.

Extension Level
Default: 69

The threshold for exhaustion zones. Readings above +69 or below -69 signal that momentum is overextended. Some traders use 60 for more conservative extension detection.

Show Divergence
Default: On

Highlights when price and QPulse diverge — a leading warning of momentum exhaustion before price reverses.

Alert on Cross
Default: Off

Triggers an alert when QPulse crosses the zero line. Useful for monitoring multiple symbols simultaneously.
