QVS Pro

Sorts the market from calm to wild so you know if your plan fits right now.

In one sentence

QVS Pro describes how calm or wild the market is. Use it to check if your plan and risk fit current conditions before you look for an entry.

Why it matters

Volatility is how much price swings. QVS Pro labels it as dormant, low, normal, high, or extreme. It looks at seven parts. These include the normal bar size (ATR, average true range), how fast the swings change, several range measures, small-scale trading costs, the slope across time frames, and speed-up.

A 0 to 100 entry score sums up these inputs. It does not place an order. Use it before your entry tools, so the market type shapes your playbook, your stop plans, and when you hold back.

Do this

  1. Read the calm-or-wild label before you choose a playbook.
  2. Look at which parts drive the total. Do not use only the label.
  3. Adjust what you expect, and drop plans that do not fit the market.
  4. Tie your size to your own risk rules and how the market moves.

Real example

This is a teaching example, not a real trade.

QVS moves from low to high as price nears a breakout level you planned. But the change in swings is also speeding up. Bigger swings suit a breakout. Unstable swings warn that fills and stops may be worse than usual. Use this to raise your standards or trade smaller. Never trade bigger because the entry score is high.

Common mistakes

  • Trading the entry score.
  • Ignoring the parts behind the total.
  • Using settings tuned for one futures market on every market without testing.

What it can't do

A high entry score is not a reason to enter or to trade bigger. The source notes say it was tuned for one futures market and uses VIX data, so it may not carry over to other markets.
