Handbook / The book
The Asymmetric Investor
Sage's free trading book. What it covers, who it is for, and where to start.
In one sentence
The Asymmetric Investor is Sage's free trading book about one idea: only take trades where the possible win is much bigger than the possible loss.
By Sage (Jason Teixeira). It is the only book Sage has written.
Why it matters
The book is the long version of everything in this handbook. It goes deeper on risk, entries, exits and the mental side of trading.
In the book's own words: "This entire book teaches you how to find, confirm, size, and execute trades where the math is on your side — even when your predictions aren't."
It is for anyone who wants to learn with skill, not hope. The book says you do not need a finance degree, a big account, or any past trading experience.
Do this
- Read the book free online at nexural.io/book. There is no paywall. The PDF isn't for sale right now.
- Start with the three chapters below. Each one takes one sitting.
- If you are brand new, the book suggests reading from Chapter 1 in order.
- After each chapter, write down one rule you will use.
Start with these three chapters:
- Chapter 1: The Asymmetric Toolkit. It gives you one short checklist to run on every trade idea you see in the server.
- Chapter 13: Risk Management. It shows the simple math for sizing a trade, so you can survive while you learn.
- Chapter 16: Psychology. It gives you a plan for bad days, so one loss does not turn into five.
Real example
This is the book's opening example, in its own words:
"60 losses × $500 −$30,000 / 40 wins × $1,500 +$60,000 / Net result +$30,000"
"You were wrong more than you were right, and you still made money."
That is the whole idea of the book. It is also the idea on our Small losses, bigger wins page.

Common mistakes
- Skipping to the advanced parts. The later chapters on options and volatility make more sense after Parts 1 to 3.
- Reading without doing. Try one idea on paper before you use it with real money.
- Treating the book as a promise. It teaches a way of thinking. It does not promise results.
